Bob was going through his truck and found the following letter. It was written to Kasie just before she graduated from ASU. He wanted me to post it on the web-site. Hope you enjoy it.
April 28, 1995
My Dearest Kasie,
Well, my child, it is about time to bring closure to four of the best years of your life. Your time at ASU has flown by and has brought many changes to all our lives.
I remember well the many college shopping trips and our total room coordination that first year. “Everyone at college has dishes.” I heard that phrase over and over until we finally bought dishes. Now exactly how many times where they used? One of my fondest memories was packing “Big Red”, arriving early, and watching in amazement as all the freshmen eagerly arrived. We lugged boxes, unpacked and had your room perfect. The orientation counselors had your afternoon planned and it was time for us to leave. We all had smiling faces all the way to “Big Red” but unfortunately, this face cried all the way home. The next morning you called and you were crying a little also. My heart broke and I was ready to come get you. I kept asking your Dad how come something so good for your hurts me so badly. The next day we talked again and you had been to a big block party the night before. You were on Cloud Nine!! You adjusted perfectly to college life that day and you have never looked back since.
One of your most special qualities is your gift of sharing. During your years at ASU, you have shared your friends with us and we now feel like they are part of our family. The weekends you spent at home almost always included at least one or two extras. This past Easter weekend did set a record, 12 special friends, but I wouldn’t have traded one minute of it. You are a GREAT judge of people and I think you have chosen the BEST these past four years. We will miss them just like you will.
Your sense of adventure and travel has expanded immeasurably since you left for college. That little kid who couldn’t find Carowinds has managed to find Arizona, New Mexico, Florida, West Virginia and even England! Very few people in this world live their dreams but you do it daily. All your life we have encouraged you to be adventurous and be your own person. Your upcoming trip to Europe and your summer in Wyoming are wonderful opportunities. We make fun of you for being a dreamer, but we admire and love every inch of your free-spirited self. You are a special individual who seeks and finds adventure. You will never look back and say “why didn’t I do this or that”. I will always worry about your safety and happiness, but I always recount your adventures with the greatest enthusiasm and pride. You are EXCEPTIONAL and we are very proud of you!
Even though your career plans are not finalized, we know that you will be successful. Your hard work and personal drive will be assets to any organization. We know it is imperative to you to be happy in what you do and we want that also. Success is measured in many denominators including money and satisfaction. We know that you need to make a difference in life and we are sure you will.
This entire letter and the past four years can be summed up in one sentence: Your dad and I are the luckiest two parents in the world! To us you are beautiful, witty, intelligent and everything else a parent could want. The past four years have been magical but remember the best is yet to come!!
All our love – Mom & Dad
