Optional Stop Signs

As a mother of a daughter with her learner’s permit, traffic signs and rules are a current topic for Kayla and me. It reminds of a famous Kasie story.

Kasie was driving the back roads in our neighborhood and slowed but didn’t stop as she proceeded through the stop sign. When mom questioned why she didn’t stop, she said, “Oh… that one’s optional.” Mom questioned “OPTIONAL? Just what did they teach you in Driver’s Ed?” Kasie was quick to reply to that she didn’t learn that in Driver’s Ed but from her friends. She said, “I must have been out that day but ANY stop sign that had a white border around it was optional. You only have to stop if you want to.” Mom was quick to set the record straight and inform her that all stop signs have white borders and she was the victim of a practical joke.

Kasie was trusting and kind and would believe anything you told her because she wanted to believe in you. I’m just glad mom caught her before a police officer did!

From your sis stopping at all the signs,

Shelley
