Boy Crazy

One of my favorite things about Kasie was that we were both boy crazy all through college and a few years beyond! All of our hard work paid off, as we ended up with two wonderful husbands, who also became terrific dads, but we hit many rocky spots along the way.
During our freshman year of college, we came up with the infamous "Tin Can". I have no idea how it got started, but it was simply a tin cookie canister that contained little slips of paper with boys’ names on them. Anyone we would meet, we would write their name on a slip of paper, and they would be put into Tin Can. It didn’t matter if we liked this person, had a crush on him, or he was just a friend. Many of the boys were just people we admired from afar, so the names in Tin Can consisted of things like Mr. Chemistry, Tall Guy, Fruit Stripes Boy, Brick House boy, and so on. Tin Can was like having our own psychic on our dorm hall. We would all gather in the room and ask questions like, "Who will I see at the party tonight?", "Who has a secret crush on me?", "Who will I marry?", and so on. Then we would pull a name out of Tin Can and laugh like crazy at whatever it said. You would think that this game would get old. Absolutely not. We played for years, and even introduced Tin Can to the girls in our sororities. I think we ended up "passing down" Tin Can to a new group of girls at App. Even though I do not know where Tin Can is now, we did keep a list of the names that were in the container, and I found it the other day. There were so many! If you are a male, and you went to ASU, you were probably part of Tin Can’s legacy.
Another thing that was great about being boy crazy with Kasie was that we never fought over a guy. Kasie always went for the basketball type boys, while I liked the soccer types. No matter where we went, we always seemed to find two friends who matched our criteria! If one of us had a crush on someone, we would automatically have to find a friend of his for the other of us to like. It was like a mission to date two friends at the same time. We moved in together at the Randolph Road house after college, and the mission continued. The sad part was that we were usually trying to find boys at Have A Nice Day Cafe, or the Hut. Obviously, no luck there. Finally, Kasie met Phil and fell head over heels in love. She was so happy, and was always out on fun dates with him. So of course she made it her mission to set me up with one of Phil’s friends. We searched high and low for one of his friends for me to fall head over heels in love with, but didn’t seem to have much luck. As you would expect, Kasie did play a part in me finally finding my husband shortly after she found Phil. She was hosting a shower for Tommy and Lucinda at Bobby & Brenda’s house. My ex-boyfriend, Kevin, was invited. Kasie and I plotted for weeks on how I would be able to steal his heart again. We picked out the perfect outfit, painted my nails, and had my hair done just right. When Kevin showed up at the Ford’s house that night, Kasie looked at me and said, "Oh girl, he is in love with you!" She gave me the play-by-play all night long about whether or not Kevin was watching me and what he was saying about me. Kevin and I did end up getting back together after that shower. How perfect that Kasie married her basketball guy, and I married my soccer guy. I have to admit that Kasie and I were boy crazy even after the Randolph Road years. We were boy crazy about our husbands. We always shared stories about the fun things we did with them and all the trips we took. And then came the best part – we were both pregnant and due within a month of each other. Wouldn’t you know that we were both expecting boys? We will ALWAYS be boy crazy about them.
